Wisdom Council News
There’s great interest in Wisdom Councils around the world, not just here in Victoria, BC. Here are a few — there are many more in the works in the USA, Europe, and New Zealand. See www.wisedemocracy.org for further info.
- A Wisdom Council in Wolfurt, Austria began last July. Three dynamic facilitators, Manfred Hellrigl, Kersten Klingenschmid and Michael Stabodin were the conveners. According to Manfred this first event was a huge success and the series will continue. He prepared a video about it in German, which is currently visible at www.bregenznet.at/hellrigl/D6E675A1-6299-4424-9883-14DA47295CBC.html. It is also being watched by the office of Austria.
- A Port Townsend Wisdom Council process including three Wisdom Council events is being convened by local alternative high school students enrolled in a Contemporary World Problems class in Port Townsend, Washington. The citizens of the town will be facilitated to hold a whole-town “dialogue” about the issues that matter to them and how those issues can be addressed. The Wisdom Councils will take place on: November 17-18, February 2-3 and April 13-14. Participants for the first council have already been randomly selected from the local voter roll. The students have been organizing these councils with the help of adult mentors skilled in various aspects of the organizing.
